On July 24, 2025, a devastating incident occurred at The Boardwalk at Hersheypark, when a 9-year-old girl went into distress while swimming in the park’s wave pool. Despite lifeguards being on duty at the time, the child was found unresponsive and transported to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.
This tragedy has shaken not only her family and loved ones but also the larger community of Harrisburg, PA and visitors of the park. Hersheypark has temporarily closed the wave pool as an investigation is underway.
While Hersheypark maintains their staff is qualified and safety protocols are sufficient, this incident raises serious concerns about safety measures, drowning prevention, and supervision in crowded water attractions like wave pools.
How a Personal Injury Law Firm Can Help
At The Doan Law Firm, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and community affected by this heartbreaking tragedy. No parent should have to experience the loss of a child, especially in a place meant to create joy and new memories.
While nothing can undo the pain of such loss, it is essential that families understand their legal rights and what options are available when a preventable accident occurs.
If you or a loved one has suffered a tragedy like this, we can help by:
- Conducting a full and thorough investigation into what happened and whether proper safety protocols were followed
- Determining liability, including whether the park, staff, or other parties failed in their duty of care
- Helping families pursue compensation to cover medical expenses, emotional distress, funeral costs, and future damages
Theme parks and water parks owe a duty of care to every guest, especially children. When that duty is breached, we believe families deserve answers and accountability.
