Houston Police Department investigators have announced that a 7-year-old girl fatally drowned at Club Westside, a popular recreation center in Houston, Texas. Emergency responders received a call about a potential child drowning at the location on Sunday, August 25, at around 4:00 PM. The girl – whose identity has not yet been released to the public – was rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus, where medical staff pronounced her dead.
A witness who asked to remain unidentified while talking to news reporters stated that a birthday party event was happening at the club’s primary family pool. Based on that person’s statement, the child drowned in that pool. Also, a woman noticed the child’s unresponsive body in the water before anyone else, and her scream notified the two lifeguards who were on duty.
So soon after the drowning incident occurred at Club Westside, it is not known what went wrong to cause the fatality. However, questions are bound to arise due to the witness report of two lifeguards who were present at the pool but apparently did not notice the 7-year-old girl in distress in the water. A subsequent investigation could be required to determine if any third party could be liable for this tragic drowning.
