Six-Year-Old Boy Drowns at Country Club

Minneapolis – A six-year-old boy died in a swimming pool drowning earlier this month at a Hopkins Country Club where he was attending a birthday party, according to police.

Sgt. Michael Glassberg, of the Hopkins police said the boy drowned around 6:24 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Country Club. An eyewitness observed the boy struggling and pulled him from the pool. The country club employees performed CPR on the boy until the police and the medics responded to the scene. The ambulance transported the boy to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

"It's a tragic situation for everyone involved," said Glassberg. "Obviously, this is never something we want to respond to, but there were heroic efforts made to save the child's life." According to the police, lifeguards were on duty at the time of the incident. After autopsy, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office said that the St. Paul boy died as a result of drowning. The death of the young boy has been ruled as an accident.
