Montreal Police are reportedly investigating a drowning that occurred at the popular Mont Saint-Sauveur Water Park late last month.
When several attendants began screaming when they noticed a body in the water, officials scrambled to the scene and discovered a nine-year-old boy, who was found unconscious in the park's wave pool.
Although lifeguards dove in to try to save him, even performing CPR on the unconscious youth, when the ambulance arrived at the scene, the situation was hopeless. The boy, who was reportedly on a school outing with classmates from a Laval area school, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Florida Toddler Dies in Apparent Drowning

Police in Hollywood, Florida are investigating the apparent child drowning of a toddler last month. The child, reported as two-year-old Valentino Llenderrozo, was found in a pool in Hollywood shortly before 5:30 p.m. on a Tuesday afternoon. Reports say Valentino's mother left him unattended in a rear room of their home while she worked outside. The mother, Mariana Parmisciano, 33, walked from the front to the back yard and found her son face down in the pool, reports say. Reportedly, Parmisciano pulled the boy from the pool, ran to a neighbor's house, called 911 from there, and began CPR until authorities arrived a few minutes later. Although Valentino was taken to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in critical condition, he died early the next morning. Police spokesmen reportedly said that Parmsciano's pool does not have a child safety fence around it, but that Hollywood building code shows the property to be in compliance. Reportedly, only pools installed after 2001 require a fence, where pools installed prior to that year simply call for the yard containing the pool to be fenced. Sifting through different information is always difficult, and assistance is not always easy to find - nor is it always effective. Oregon River Claims Another Casualty

Walter Dines, 18, of Glen Burnie, Md., jumped from the high basalt cliff at Gladstone's High Rocks Park to join friends in the water, at the urging of older adults on the rocks. He struggled to swim across the cold, rain-swollen river, and began having problems immediately, reports say. Witnesses said when he finally reached the side of the river and tried to pull himself out of the water, he fell back in and was swept away by the strong current. A dive-rescue team recovered Dines' body about a half-hour later in 24 feet of water. The dangerous Clackamas River's swimming hole has been a place of recreation for thousands of local swimmers. But drowning incidents continue to rise. The river, located in Oregon's South Okanagan, has a tragic history of drownings and injuries stretching back for decades. This incident, however, was reportedly the first time anyone had drown with lifeguards in attendance.

Harlem Teen Drowns On Field Trip

Pressure for answers mounts in the drowning of a Harlem who died while on a school field trip. Criticism has increased against inexperienced chaperones involved in the trip, mainly three adults who accompanied 24 students on the bus to Long Beach, and who reportedly ignored signs that advised lifeguards were not on duty on that stretch of the beach. Reports say the students had travelled from school to a particularly treacherous stretch of the Atlantic Ocean. The trip, which was supervised by first-year teacher Erin Bailey, substitute teacher Joseph Garnevicus and intern Victoria Wong, a college sophomore from Syracuse University, was approved by Columbia Secondary School Principal José Maldonado-Rivera. Schools in the New York area require consent forms to attend field trips, and those forms would have specified that the trip involved swimming. Education Department officials reportedly refused to say if parents signed required permission slips for the trip. Officials in Connecticut have identified a 31-year-old man drowning victim. The man, whose body was recovered in a pond after a boating accident in the Jewett City section of Griswold, had been missing since the previous night, following an accident where his boat reportedly hit the bank of a small island on the pond. The man, identified as James Avila of Griswold, CT, apparently struck the shore on the east side of Asland Pond at about 10:30 p.m. on a weekend outing last month. It took until the next morning for rescuers to find the man's body. Although the accident is still under investigation, officials say a friend of the man called authorities after he heard the watercraft's engine exhaust stop and then saw no sign of the man afterward. A worker on the Seaspan Shipping terminal in Delta, Vancouver, Canada died last month after he fell into the Fraser River and drowned. The accident happened at about 7 p.m., reports say and it was unknown how long he had been in the water or who found the worker. Coast Guard divers pulled him from the water, following a search involving a police helicopter and tugboats. Although he received emergency medical assistance, he died at the scene. Northern California Longshoreman Drowns On Job

An investigation was being conducted late last month to probe the circumstances under which 77-year-old longshoreman, Delmont Blakeney, of Oakland, CA died. Reports say fellow workers have blamed the drowning on the lack of safety ladders in the area in which he drowned. Blakeney was reportedly trying to free a cargo container from his vessel when it came loose and threw him overboard just before 11 p.m. one Saturday evening. Blakeney remained in the frigid waters of the San Francisco Bay for nearly 40 minutes before his coworkers were able to find a ladder and pull Blakeney to shore, according to Craig Merrilees, a spokesman for International Longshore and Warehouse Union. Although Blakeney was reportedly given CPR and transported to a hospital, he was later pronounced dead. Reports also say that earlier this month, another longshoreman fell into the waters and had to wait for nearly an hour while colleagues searched for a ladder to rescue him. Docks are quite a bit higher than the water line and it is impossible to climb ashore from where the men fell. In accidental deaths such as this, knowing your rights is critical. Questions may only be answered by experts who have dealt with similar situations.
