Two-Year-Old Survives Near-Drowning - and Long Trip

Tairino Masters was found floating face-down in a lagoon at Spirits Bay, just after New Year's. The two-year-old was barely breathing when his rescuers dragged him from the water, reports say.

To get aid to the child, the Spirits Bay camp manager drove mother and child to a landing where an emergency vehicle picked them up and drove them to where an ambulance met them. From there, the toddler was ferried to a rescue helicopter, when then flew him to the hospital. Masters, accompanied the entire time by his mother, was admitted to the hospital for overnight observation.

By the time he was on the helicopter, he was complaining more of hunger than of his water injuries. Although he developed a fever that night in the hospital, he was discharged the next day fully recovered, reports say.
