Toddler Wins Nearly A million Dollars After Near-Drowning

Sean Ross McGowan, a six-year-old from Dublin who was left with 95% brain damage after he nearly drowned while on an outing in 2007, has settled a court action against for just under a million dollars, reports say.

McGowan had wandered away from his group while the caretakers engaged in conversation, reports say. McGowan fell into a Ranelagh Park pond near where the group was walking, only having been discovered by a doctor who happened to be in the area where he fell in.

The boy was resuscitated, but was left severely injured, suffering massive and permanent brain damage, leaving him blind and a spastic quadriplegic. He now needs constant care in a residential facility.

The circumstances behind this injury are tragic. How will the parents pay for the care the boy needs during his lifetime?
