Father of Twins Dies from Injuries Suffered in Lifesaving Attempt

The father of the twin nine-year-old girls who drowned near the Texas City dike earlier this month has died, reports say.

Hector Suarez-Palacios died Friday morning after being on life support following an unsuccessful attempt to rescue his twin daughters when they were swept out to sea while swimming. After seeing them struggle, Suarez-Palacios jumped into the water - but was caught in the same current that took his daughters' lives. Emergency crews were immediately dispatched and two of the three were found - the father and one girl -- but neither the father nor the girl was responsive.

The body of the missing sister was found after it washed up onto the beach near the Texas City dike in the evening.  The man and girl were taken to the hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead. The father, Hector Suarez-Palacios, was reportedly on a life support system in the Mainland Medical Center. The Suarez sisters were students at M.E. Foster Elementary School in the Houston Independent School District.
